Nollamara Primary and Intensive English School caters for students from Kindergarten to Year 6. Since opening in 1956, the school community reflects a diverse range of cultural backgrounds and many students who speak a language other than English, access the Intensive English program.
The school has significant links to our local Aboriginal culture with ‘Nollamara’ meaning ‘red and green kangaroo paw’ and many historical Aboriginal landmarks surround our environment.
Highly competent staff work at the school and provide rich language and learning experiences using the Western Australian Curriculum, incorporating research-based pedagogical practices.
At Nollamara Primary, students are supported to develop a strong sense of belonging in our community and staff have high expectations for every student. The school endeavours to develop the ‘whole child’ and provides academic, social, emotional, creative and physical support. Specialist staff on our school site include the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Officer, school support worker, chaplain and psychologist.
Nollamara Primary supports the artistic development of students through the inclusion of specialist programs including the teaching of Aboriginal culture, French, Art, Music, Physical Education and Information Communication Technology. A new Science laboratory will be built in the school in 2018, enabling students to enhance their knowledge, skills and understandings in a realistic environment. Students are encouraged to embrace nature and play by accessing many areas and a large oval at the school.
Our school’s strategic direction is categorised into four interweaving priority areas which are also incorporated into Operational Plans, providing school-wide approaches to Literacy, Numeracy, STEM and Information Communication Technology.
Nollamara Primary has excellent facilities to cater for the students’ educational, social and physical needs. The school has large, well planned classrooms and a full sized oval for general play and sporting activities. We have a new library which was completed in 2015, and all classrooms are air-conditioned. We have a fully enclosed under cover area where assemblies are held. Information technology is integrated in to the curriculum, and supported by interactive whiteboards in every classroom and a computer lab. An extensive wireless network support notebook computers and iPad devices.

The school has a fully integrated Intensive English Centre (which commenced in 2005) consisting of approximately 75 students. We cater for all new arrival permanent resident students, and those on 457 visa. Our current cohort has in excess of 50 different language backgrounds which we acknowledge and celebrate throughout the year, especially on Harmony Day and during NAIDOC week.
